Butyrate is a short chain fatty acid and an essential energy source for cells in the intestinal tract. However it also benefits the immune system of animals and holds antibacterial activity. Supplementing diets with coated butyrate can therefore be beneficial to promote animal health.

Main properties of sodium butyrate.

(1) Growth promotion. Butyric acid is known to be an important energy source for intestinal epithelial cells, it improve the growth,recovery and differentiation of intestinal villi, increase of the length of villi leads to the increase of absorption surface. villi length increased up to 30%, and feed intake increased up to 10%.
